<p><div class="p1">We enjoyed meeting many librarians at <a href="http://2016.code4lib.org/index.html" target="_blank">Code4Lib last week</a>! While LibraryH3lp of course has oodles of standard features available through our graphical management interfaces, we wanted to take a moment to open up the hood and illustrate some of the things we can offer to those interested in diving a bit deeper.<br /><span class="s1"><br /></span><span class="s1">The <a href="https://dev.libraryh3lp.com/rest-api.html" target="_blank">LibraryH3lp REST API</a> provides programmatic access to resources (like users, queues, chat box skins, code snippets, FAQs) included with your subscription or trial and makes it</span> easy to write and test custom scripts to manage your account. <br /><br />You can use your browser to access URLs and make use of pretty much any HTTP client in any programming language.  If you happen to dig Python, we have a ready-made <a href="https://github.com/libraryh3lp/libraryh3lp-sdk-python" target="_blank">SDK available under @libraryh3lp on GitHub</a>.<br /><br /></div><div class="p1"><span class="s1">But when there’s so much flexibility, sometimes it is hard to know where to start!  Here are some ideas to get you started…</span><br /><span class="s1"><br /></span></div><div class="p2"><h3><span class="s1">Account Management</span></h3></div><ul><li class="li3"><span class="s2"></span><span class="s1">Create a new user, automatically adding her to queues, conference rooms, canned message pools, and buddying her with colleagues. </span></li><li class="li3"><span class="s3"></span><span class="s1">Perform a search/replace operation across FAQs.</span></li><li class="li3"><span class="s3"></span><span class="s1">Bulk import questions and answers into a FAQ.</span></li><li class="li3"><span class="s1">Edit questions or templates in the console. Ask a Librarian Mobile App now in Amazon Appstore

Easy-to-Update Public Announcements for any Web Page

New FAQ customization options

<p>FAQ sites received an update this weekend.  This update brings the ability to customize the wording for <i>everything</i> that shows up for users viewing your FAQ.  This is especially important because it means that the public view of a FAQ in a non-English language can be fully translated now, with no pesky English-language default system components in view. New Webclient Auto-Logout Feature

Sign into the webclient from another location and opt yourself out using the regular queue selection box. This will opt you out of your queues <i>from all locations no matter what software client you are using</i>. Phew! Then, logout as usual. You'll be able to opt yourself back in when it's time for your next shift.<br /><br />An administrator can also opt users out of queues. In the users management page (<a href="https://us.libraryh3lp.com/dashboard/#/users" target="_blank">US</a>, <a href="https://ca.libraryh3lp.com/dashboard/#/users" target="_blank">CA</a>, <a href="https://eu.libraryh3lp.com/dashboard/#/users" target="_blank">EU</a>, <a href="https://sg.libraryh3lp.com/dashboard/#/users" target="_blank">SG</a>), select the user in question and <a href="http://screencast.com/t/ubIFwEH3Nr7s" target="_blank">uncheck the boxes next to the queue assignments</a> to temporarily unassign users as operators on a queue.<br /><br /></div><h3>What if you use another software client to staff your LibraryH3lp service?  </h3><br />If you staff your service through another XMPP (Jabber) client such as Pidgin or Adium, no worries. <a href="http://docs.libraryh3lp.com/clients-external.html" target="_blank">Locally installed desktop clients</a> usually have great support for automatic setting of Away status based on keyboard/mouse idle time. So with these clients, you can prevent yourself from falsely holding the service online easily.<br /><br />But if you happen to not have auto-away enabled, or if the trigger is a long way off, you can still use the admin dashboard or webclient to opt out of your queues. Just follow the steps in the section right above this one. <br /><br /><h3>Concierge auto-replies</h3><br />One related note. You can also have <a href="http://libraryh3lp.blogspot.com/2015/05/libraryh3lp-concierge-auto-responder.html" target="_blank">automated replies based on a lengthy wait time</a> for your guests. This helps cover things not only if your service has been left online accidentally, but also in case your operators can't respond as quickly as usual for any other reason.</p>

Maximize Your Ask a Librarian Coverage

<p>In the last post, we shared a checklist designed to <a href="http://libraryh3lp.blogspot.com/2015/05/whip-your-ask-librarian-service-into.html">whip your Ask a Librarian service into shape</a>.  We included tips and strategies for maximizing and invigorating chat, texting, knowledge base, and email services.  In this post, we wanted to focus on personal interactions between librarians and patrons and share some ideas on how you can most strategically maximize Ask a Librarian coverage.<br /><br />When you boil it down, expanding real-time Ask a Librarian coverage means people.  And once you start talking about adding people, everyone starts talking about budget.  The good news is that there are ways to maximize coverage without breaking the bank, and a little bit of ingenuity can go a long way.<br /><br /><h3>Make sure the busiest hours are covered</h3>Before spending a dime on more, why not make sure you are squeezing every last bit of benefit from what you have now? With library patrons, you certainly have much longer useful service hours since libraries are all about research and education, and students of all sorts often work late into the night.<br /><br />Also remember that this Chats Per Hour analysis can only show you traffic trends for when you service is actually online and open for business.  Well, then, how are you supposed to tell which hours you are NOT currently covering would be appreciated by your patrons?  We have you covered. You might find that resources currently being used for chat are better applied at different times or even elsewhere. If you are already dealing with limited chat hours, try keeping your busiest hours staffed and experiment by reinvesting the lower-traffic hours at new time slots.<br /><br /><h3>Hire backup staffing</h3>Let's assume you want to extend your chat service hours, but your existing staff are stretched to the max already, and it's not worth it to hire dedicated after-hours staff just for your own library. What now? One excellent option is <a href="http://www.chatstaff.org/" target="_blank">Chatstaff</a>. LibraryH3lp Concierge: Auto-responder for incoming chats

<p>Looking for a consistent, friendly greeting for each new chat?  <a href="http://libraryh3lp.blogspot.com/2014/05/typing-timesaver-canned-messages-are.html" target="_blank">Canned messages</a> are one way to go if an available operator provides a timely response.  Having a real person respond quickly is the best customer service.  But what if a new chat goes unanswered for an unusually long period of time? <br /><br />Enter the new LibraryH3lp Concierge.  With the Concierge auto-responder, you can automatically provide customized replies with flexible time triggers.  For example, if a chat languishes for 45 seconds, perhaps it is time for apologetic message and an offer of alternative contact possibilities.<br /><br />Concierge auto-responses can be set up on one, some, or all of your queues. Each queue can have unique concierge settings with auto-responses triggered after a customizable time delay. <br /><br />In order to set up your concierge services, please <a href="mailto:support@libraryh3lp.com?subject=Concierge%20setup%20request&body=The%20name%20of%20the%20queue%20or%20queues%3A%0A%0AHow%20long%20in%20minutes%20or%20seconds%20to%20wait%20before%20triggering%20the%20message%3A%0A%0AExact%20wording%20of%20the%20message%3A%0A">email support</a> with the following details:<br /><ul><li>The name of the queue or queues.</li><li>How long in minutes or seconds to wait before triggering the auto-response.</li><li>Exact wording of the auto-response.</li></ul><br /><b>What happens on the staff side?</b><br /><br />Nothing changes from the staff's point of view.  And, the staff can still answer even after an auto-response that apologizes for a delay and offers alternative contact methods.<br /><br /><b>What about text messaging (SMS)? </b><br /><br />While you can certainly have auto-replies for your text messaging queue, you may or may not want to provide them.  Text messages already have the offline auto-reply, which is a different kind of auto-response.  If you also wish to provide an automatic greeting, you will want to make sure the overall effect is coherent. <br /><br /><b>Does Concierge require use of the webclient on the part of the operator?</b><br /><br />No. Concierge works regardless of the <a href="http://docs.libraryh3lp.com/suitable-jabber-clients" target="_blank">staffing software</a> the operator is using.<br /><br /><b>Can we have more than one auto-reply on a single queue: one as an initial greeting and another as a fail-safe if no one is really there?</b><br /><br />Yes!  However, in the interest of good customer service, it is good to be a bit cautious about what the first of the two messages says.  It is often better to have a human send an initial greeting, and this can be done quickly and easily using <a href="http://ask.libraryh3lp.com/questions/3010" target="_blank">canned messages</a>.  This way, your guests are rightfully informed that a person is there and paying attention to their message.  If you have an automated initial greeting, and no real person can actually respond quickly, that can leave a bad impression even if an apologetic auto-reply comes along later.</p>

Introducing the ACLator: fine-grained control over all the things

<p>We are pleased to announce the release of the Permissions and Access Control List Editor, which we've pet-named the ACLator.  Think "Ack-ell-a-tor" using an Arnold Schwarzenegger voice.<br /><br />The ACLator places the power of fine-grained access control squarely in your hands.  By default, users have limited, read-only privileges on queues of which they are members - just the minimum for staffing.  From those humble beginnings, users are commonly elevated to full administrative access across an account or to administrative access within a subset of the account.  But it doesn't stop there!  When you log into the webclient for staffing (or dashboard), by default, you get a session cookie, which is good for the duration of that particular browser session.  If you click the 'Remember me' option, instead, you'll get a cookie that remains valid for 14 days and persists between browser sessions (restarts). <br /><br />If you staff from a shared computer, you'll want to stick with the default and not use the 'Remember me' option.  Either type of login ends when you logout from either the webclient or the dashboard.</div><div><br /><div><h3>Webclient networking improvements</h3></div><div>The <span class="il">webclient</span> and our server are in constant contact, verifying the network connection, to make sure that you'll be able to successfully answer incoming chats.  When that connection is disrupted, an auto-reconnection sequence begins that ultimately results in a successful reconnection or a notification to the operator of the error so that the operator can log in again.  We've reworked the networking in the webclient to better weather poor network conditions like dropped packets or low connectivity over wireless networks.</div><br /></div><h3>Hello, 3mail</h3><div><div>LibraryH3lp already offers several points for email integration - <a href="http://libraryh3lp.blogspot.com/2013/01/new-tag-for-followup-email-behavior.html">tag for follow-up for chats</a>, <a href="http://docs.libraryh3lp.com/faq-integrations">email address or contact page for FAQs</a>, and <a href="http://libraryh3lp.blogspot.com/2012/06/zawinskis-law-libraryh3lp-now-with-100.html">forwarding guest emails</a> in reply to emailed transcripts.  But true to <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jamie_Zawinski#Zawinski.27s_law_of_software_envelopment">Zawinski's Law</a>, your LibraryH3lp subscription now includes <i>unlimited</i> use of our new module, 3mail! Istirahat yang baik akan meningkatkan kerja memori otak, sehingga memacu pikiran kreatif dan bahkan dapat ‘menyelesaikan’ berbagai persoalan.<br /><br />Ketika sedang tidur, ada beberapa tahapan yang bekerja secara ‘naik-turun’. Dimulai dari tidur ringan atau fase N1, tidur sedang atau fase N2, tidur dalam atau fase N3, dan ada fase REM (Rapid Eye Movement).<br /><br />“Nah di saat REM inilah kita bermimpi, dan biasanya manusia bermimpi 4-6 kali di setiap tidur malam mereka. Tapi, tidak semua orang dapat mengingat mimpi mereka,” ujarnya seperti ditulis dalam detikHealth, </span><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Minggu</span> (04/01/2015).<br /><br />Pada saat manusia memasuki tahapan tidur REM, tubuh berhenti melepaskan neurotransmitter yang bertanggung jawab untuk menstimulasi saraf motorik. Ini berarti bahwa otot-otot tubuh Anda akan berhenti bergerak dan lebih rileks. Tidur REM juga bertanggung jawab pada stimulasi saraf yang berguna memperkuat koneksi saraf. Pada saat itulah, fungsi memori otak bekerja.<br /><br />“Itulah yang membuat masalah Anda sering terbawa mimpi,” ujar dokter yang akrab disapa dr. Ade ini.</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />Kuncinya, menurut dr. Ade ada pada fase REM. Pada fase tersebut, fungsi otak meningkat dan akan menurun lagi ketika melewati fase REM. Tidak jarang, fungsi otak yang meningkat dalam tidur membuat beberapa orang menemukan pemecahan atas masalah sehari-hari saat sedang bermimpi.<br /><br />“Karena saat tidur otak berpikir dengan jernih, maka akan lebih mudah bagi otak untuk menyelesaikan masalah lewat mimpi. Lagi pula ketika kualitas tidur malam kita baik, begitu bangun kita akan memiliki pikiran yang lebih jernih sehingga akan lebih mudah untuk menyelesaikan masalah,” pungkas dr. Ade.<br /><br />Jadi bukan berarti ketika kita sedang mengalami masalah dan belum menemukan solusi, lantas terbawa dalam mimpi bukan berarti itu jawabannya. Itu terjadi karena adanya aktivitas dalam fase tidur REM.</span></div></p>

Easy proactive chat for your LibraryH3lp-powered virtual service

<p>Awhile back, we shared with you some ideas on how to <a href="http://libraryh3lp.blogspot.com/2014/04/get-proactive-with-your-virtual.html">add proactive chat to your web pages with custom JavaScript</a>. Because there was so much interest and positive feedback from that post, we've rolled out integrated proactive chat invitations for your LibraryH3lp-powered service. No more need for custom JavaScript. Just dead simple point and click. Sound good? Let's do it!<br /><br /><h3>Anatomy of a Proactive Invitation</h3>Proactive chat invitations come in two basic flavors - a button dialog or an image dialog. For the image dialog, we offer a default "Chat now" image as well as <a href="http://docs.libraryh3lp.com/gallery">several other choices</a>. Alternatively, you can opt to use any image you'd like. And there are 24 different <a href="http://www.pinterest.com/libraryh3lp/proactive-chat-themes/" target="_blank">theme options available for your proactive invitation</a>.<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://docs.libraryh3lp.com/images/buttons-vs-image.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="110" src="http://docs.libraryh3lp.com/images/buttons-vs-image.png" width="320" /></a></div><h3>How To</h3>The magic lives in the <a href="http://docs.libraryh3lp.com/create-code-services">Chat snippets part of the LibraryH3lp admin dashboard</a>.  You can add proactive chat invitations to any existing chat snippet.  Proactive will include an invitation to chat in addition to your existing in-page option, leaving the in-page option unchanged.  If you've never used chat snippets before, they replace the functionality of our old DIY-style code plus give you added flexibility to configure your virtual service on the fly without having to edit your web pages.<br /><br />To add proactive chat to a service, click the Edit button and scroll down to the section labeled "Routing for incoming chats." Click the <b>Proactive options</b> tab and from there you'll be able to craft your own proactive service. The proactive invitation is timer-based. After a timed period that you control, a guest browsing your web page will see a chat invitation. Placement of the invitation within your web page is configurable.<br /><br /><h3>Proactive and polite</h3>So what happens when a guest declines your invitation? After all, you don't want to risk annoying the guest as they navigate your site with a recurring invitation on each page visit. No worries. For that, we have a cookie that remembers that the guest has declined your proactive invitation.<br /><br />When you are testing your proactive invitation and need to trigger the dialog again, simply delete the "libraryh3lp-shhh" cookie and you're ready to go.<br /><br /><i><strike>Note: Integrated proactive chat is not yet available on the LibraryH3lp Canadian regional server.  We'll update this post when released on that regional.</strike></i><br /><br /></p>

Webclient updates: conference room alerts, improved pinning workflow

<p>This morning, we released a few new features in our <a href="http://docs.libraryh3lp.com/clients-web">webclient for staff</a>.  Each of the new features is based upon feedback from you, so keep those suggestions coming!<br /><br /><h3>Conference room notifications and alerts</h3><br /><a href="http://libraryh3lp.blogspot.com/2014/08/conference-rooms-for-libraryh3lp.html">Conference rooms</a> now feature configurable sound notifications, desktop notifications, and alerts. <br /><br /><b>Conference room chat sounds and desktop notifications</b> provide simple audio and visual notices of <i>all </i>new room messages. Every time someone sends a message, you'll hear your selected sound and see a desktop notification.<br /><br /><b>Conference room alert sounds </b>provide a way to draw <i>extra-special attention</i> to a conference room message. Alerts can function like a "panic button," triggering a special sound and appearing as a bold message in the conference room. Need more help at a service desk? Sudden flurry of chats?
